I noticed you didn’t mention Internet cafes. I know when you were a student abroad sometimes that was the only way we could communicate. Is that something that is not used anymore. Might be worth mentioning for those who can’t afford the luxuries of owning or bringing electronic possessions.

    • Internet cafes have definitely died out over the years, but free WiFi is almost everywhere around the world. Hostels sometimes have a community computer and hotels will usually have a business center if need be.

  2. great tips, I also don’t get drunk while traveling solo.

Spending a year abroad sounds exciting… until you see the planning involved.

Flights, edits, contracts, itineraries — not to mention the admin of being a mom. I’m usually running everything at once, so having a laptop that can keep up makes a huge difference.

I’ve been using an AMD Ryzen AI–powered laptop to keep everything organized, run AI tools even when WiFi isn’t available, and work from wherever we happen to be in the world.

So I can finish what I need to do… and get back to what’s most important ❤️
