Hi! Stumbled on this blog while scrolling through Pinterest, and I absolutely love it! I am definitely convinced that I am someone who would enjoy solo travel. I do have a question though, at what age do you think it is the safest to travel on my own? I’m only 18 now, but I would like to start planning for the future.

    • Hi Sophie! I’ve met different aged solo travelers all around the world, and I think 18 is a great age to start thinking about doing solo travel. You could also consider doing a Study Abroad program, which allows you to really experience one destination, and allows you to become comfortable with exploring new places on your own- but there is assistance if you need it!

  2. Hi Kiersten 🙂 Your blog is so inspiring (and fun!), I really wish I had the confidence to live like you and follow your advice but I can’t quite believe the world really is this safe… I am only 19, 5ft2, blonde and look very young for my age, but I desperately want to go travelling and have no one to go with. Do you really think it’s not that dangerous? Or does it vary depending on the person?

    • You should always use your best judgement when traveling but it really doesn’t matter what you look like! It doesn’t make you more of a target than a tall, strong looking guy. I’m here in Brazil and look like a lot of local Brazilian girls with blonde hair. So, it’s all perspective 🙂 Saying “the world” is safe or dangerous would both be generalizing on a huge level. So, I’d like to say that there are countless “destinations” around the world that are safe. Even within a single city, there are parts that are safe, and parts to avoid.

Spending a year abroad sounds exciting… until you see the planning involved.

Flights, edits, contracts, itineraries — not to mention the admin of being a mom. I’m usually running everything at once, so having a laptop that can keep up makes a huge difference.

I’ve been using an AMD Ryzen AI–powered laptop to keep everything organized, run AI tools even when WiFi isn’t available, and work from wherever we happen to be in the world.

So I can finish what I need to do… and get back to what’s most important ❤️
